People say that all the time......health is wealth. Its the most important thing, right? You may know this but..... it can easily slip out of your consciousness when you are just living life, working, and feeling relatively well.
But we definitely know this first hand when we get so sick that all life stops....... and we can't even get out of bed. Life stops and work stops. So being healthy truly translates to money. Especially being a performing artist. Your body really is your job.
"You can have all the money in the world, but if you don't have your health, you don't have anything."
So true.
We may know all of this but….the strangest part is, we don't invest in our health.
We look at the price of food and think buying organic whole foods is way too expensive. $7 for a small container of blueberries!? Seriously!? We look at the $1 menu at McDonald's and think....nice! I can get lunch for $3!? Sweet!
But.... what is that thinking really costing you?
Now to some people the dollar menu is just reality. They truly cannot afford to buy good food. They have to focus on keeping a roof over their families heads. So the $1 menu is what they have to do. This infuriates me that MicDonald's is cheaper than fruits and vegetables. But sadly, that's a whole 'nother blog all together.
But forget just food. There are a lot of things that contribute to our overall health. We don't invest in what we put in our bodies but also on our skin. What we put on our skin goes right into our bloodstream. Parabens, Chemicals and all. We don't invest in going to a therapist to combat stress or conflict in our relationships because "I can handle it on my own". Or we put off investing in getting a deep tissue massage or acupuncture because it is considered "pampering" not a detoxifying necessity. We boast about how we "don't need more than 5 hours of sleep a night". I have never understood why is this something that we think is "cool"? Sleep is a huge part of health. And its not "cool" at all not to invest in our bodies and take the time to sleep.
Our health, healthcare and the state of people's health is an ongoing topic in my house. My husband and I get so passionate about how much we want our son to know its important to invest in his health. To know health has got to be a priority in life. Just as much as paying rent, it is something you have to do every month.
You have to make health a priority.
Now, this doesn't mean don't have fun...ever. That's ridiculous. Don't have a beer or a cocktail and stay up 'til 2am with friends eating nachos? Believe it or not, that is healthy....sometimes. You need to let loose, draw outside the lines and have fun every once in awhile.
Joy in your life is a huge part of your health. So is sex, lots of good sex! Be in touch with your spirituality, and take time for yourself. Have quality time with friends (real social face to face interaction. Not just Facebook, Twitter & Instagram?). Your mind needs to learn something new to stay healthy. Learn a new trade or skill (at least once a year).
Invest in your Body. It will thank you for it.
And if you don't, just think about how much money you will then be spending at the doctors office?
Namaste, my friends.
